The talk from Andrew Patterson

This morning Andrew Patterson came to the year 8 block well he used to speak for radio live station. He talked to us how to be prepared for college and how to manage our time wisely. Do you remember when you first started college? Were you nervous?. Something he told us was about habits.Their can be good habits and sometimes bad habits.

He talked to us about what kind of college were going to. He also told us about our brain cells he that our brain grows it doesn't matter if you get the answer right it matters if you get it wrong. Because your brain is working the hard questions and getting them wrong because you learn more.

Amazing Race

Time with friends

You have just had a time when you’ve done something special with your friends and classmates.

Write to recount that time.

Write about:
  • when and where you did something special
  • who was with you
  • what you did (think about the order you did things)
  • how you felt and why you felt this way.

Remember to:
  • choose your words carefully
  • write in full sentences
  • take care with your spelling and punctuation
  • give your writing a title if you want to
  • check your work: read it through and fix any mistakes you find

To start of the day I quietly sat down in the street to get ready for a big day ahead. Hearing the notices getting called out but I heard something else Mrs Tele’a said we are going to be doing fun time.I thought to myself what is fun time but Mrs Tele’a didn’t tell us she just said that we have been doing a good job so we are going to do something fun.

The bell rang it was time to stop playing outside and go back to class me and my mates zoomed  back to class to get ready for fun time.We put on our P.E shirts and sat down to listen what is fun time.Mrs tele’a said that we have to go back to our home class to see what group we are in.I looked on the board to see what group I was in and I was in my friends group. In my group was me Kevine Elizabeth and Rave we were an all girls group.

I was still wondering what is fun time I asked my friend she said it was an amazing race. I thought  what kind of an amazing race. We had to get a paper to see what station we are going to first. We sat back down in the street to head of to our stations Mrs tele’a called out who is going to fear factor and it was my group. We all had to head of the the brees for our activity. We all sat down to hear what is fear factor I saw slimy spaghetti with fruit salad inside I said EW that don’t look nice but we didn’t eat the spaghetti we ate raw weet bix. I was the one out of my  group that had to eat the raw weet bix ready go Miss ingram said I straight away put the whole weet bix in mouth trying to chew it down but my mouth was so dry I couldn't even eat it I was still chewing but the finally I was almost finished I swallowed it quick but I came second. We had to sit back down to go to our next activity. Our next activity was brain bust.

Walking to room 2,to find out what brain bust is heading through the door about to take of my shoes Miss Clark said no it's fine leave your shoes on. So my group walked in through the door thinking what is brain bust all about. We sat down at a desk so Miss Clark can tell use all about brain bust. She said it is trying to solve out tricky maths questions our first question was what can you see through a wall and we answered a window and we got it right. but then we got a harder one we had to try and use numbers to make it up to 17 but we couldn't use the same number we had to try and make 17 in 3 different ways and you had to use a number between 9 and 1 we had to use 4 numbers to make 17 we only made 2 and our teacher helped use with one.

I think it was the best day that we have done at school next time I think we should do this more offley but different kind of ones.

A want vs a need

A Want:

Of course most people want things they can’t have either they can’t afford it or they're not allowed it.Need and want is totally different a want is something you want now but  you can’t have and a need it what thing you have to have Like food to keep you alive and fruit and vegetables to keep you healthy. But you can’t have the things you want like you don’t need a bike or ps4s.

A need

Everyone needs Food,Water,Power to cook their food and a need is something important a need is something that can last not a pair of shoes that can’t last. The main thing everyone need is oxygen to live on Earth.I might even go to a expensive place or say a night in a hotel . But what if we really need something but you wasted your money on something you don’t really need. You need something you really need not what you want.

What is more important a want of a need?
To me I reckon a need is more important than a want what would you rather want a iphone 6 plus of food to keep you alive. Even though I get branded shoes like converse but I didn’t really need them. When I just wasted 135 dollars on a pair of shoes when I could of bought something that I really need not want I wanted.Their is cheaper shoes at the warehouse like 15 to 30 dollars.

In conclusion we should be using our money wisely to keep our house looking beautiful instead of spending our money on expensive stuff where we can get more important stuff to buy.Like if you have your family come for a vist you would have food in you cupboard.

Think board

Every week class 2 maths group have been working on our think board. This is my think board that I have been working on and I Finnish it.

Explanation Writing Week 1

How do people receive and spend money
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Certain people get paid different amount of money either they are in a higher job or work more hours to get paid the government gives the job money to pay their workers. Some people get paid fortnightly or weekly.  I heard that people that work has to get paid at least $12.50 if they don’t the job is repping them off.

How do I get paid.

Well how I get paid is for helping my mum with the dishes and cleaning up the house. Sometimes I get paid for cleaning the bathroom and toilet. But most of the times I always get pocket money for always being helpful.

People should be saving their money not spending their money only on this they need not what they want.If you save up you could buy anything you want for example if you care gets broken into you can buy another car.

A Day At High School

On the 28th of April the year 8s from Pt England school went down to Tamaki College to  experience the life of high school. As we got their 2 other school were there which was Glen Innes Glen Brae. When we were sitting down more school’s started arriving then one of the teachers from Tamaki college started telling us want we are about to do.

As most of the schools arrived Miss More told all the girls to go and get our name tags then he told the boys to get it. As we all got our name tags she told us to look at our tags and see what group we and then she told all of their house colors which was Rata Kowai Puriri Totara.

When she was finished talking she all called out the groups names and we had to go to our leader. Finally we got to do our first activity meanwhile our first activity which was social studies. What we did was that we had to try and answer as much questions as we can to beat the other people.I was in groups of 1 which was Rebekah then we had to swap groups.

The next activity we done was maths with Mr Jones we played battle ships it was a really fun game to play to play the game is to have 5 ships and a number line 1 to 9 and up 7 and you have to try and hide your ships away so they don’t sink your boat if they sink all your boats then you're out.

Then we had to go back to the hall to have our interval we had a juice and a yogurt as we were eating.

At the end of the day the leaders from each group got told to pick two people from their group for a prize the small prize was a bag and the big prize was a printer then we said our thank you and we sang our waita which was nga waka e.

Respect

RESPECT

Respect is all about having manners and showing each and others the right way at the right time with the right attitude. Plus by using the 3 P which means protection partnership and participation.

To show respect is to listen when someone is talking and not talking well the teacher is talking. Respect is about admiring someone about what they can do.If you want to be treated well then you will have to treat others the way you wanted be treated. And show what awesome looks like.

Ployfest

Kia Ora, talofa lava, malo e lelei, faakalofa lahi atu, kia orana, bula vinaka, namaste and greetings!! My name is DJ It’s Pasifika week in Aotearoa, this means it’s a week long celebration of all things Pacific.  This includes the birthday dance we had with Mrs Tele’a!  Part of the celebration is the Polyfest!  This Thursday we are planning to travel to Manukau to take part in some workshops and then visit stages.  The two stages we will be visiting will be the Maori and Diversity stages.  Did you know that this event - the Polyfest celebrates 40 years since it’s beginning?  Awesome isn’t it!

Why do you think young people and their whanau participate in this event?

I think all of the people from other school and whanau participate in polyfest to show of their cultures. They show of their cultures so people can see how great they love their culture. So they give more harder dance moves. They show their family proud.

What things do you think the performers had to go through to get to having the items we will see? (Make a list)
  • Practise
  • getting told off
  • making up the moves
  • to learn new moves

How does this event promote our different cultures?

to promote others for joining in to other cultures is to help them out when their suck and to courage them for joining in. To promote others for learning their culture and their dance moves is to tell the that their doing well

Conclusion: Write a short paragraph about what you are looking forward to during our visit to the Polyfest.

I am really looking forward to visiting the ASB polyfest in manukau and watching all of the good performances and the people that is in the performances and seeing the people i know in it.

Using commas 2

Using commas
The boy, who was very tall, was a great basketball player.  😍

In the sentence above, the words in between the two commas give us extra information.  These words could be left out and the sentence would still make sense.

In the story below there are some sentences that give extra information. Your task is to put commas (   ) around the extra information. The first pair of commas has been put in for you.

Old Mrs MacGinty  who had lived in her house for sixty-five years
was having a garage sale. She wanted to clear out some of the clutter from her house. The sale which was being held on Saturday, had been advertised in the local paper. There was also a sign on Mrs MacGinty’s front gate.
On Friday night, Mrs MacGinty went down to the garage to check that everything was in order, for the next day. The blue and white dinner set was going for a bargain, she thought at fifty-five dollars. The grandfather clock, although running a little slow did still go. The vase which she had been given, as a twenty-first birthday present, had a small crack but you'd hardly notice it. When Mrs MacGinty looked at herself in the oak-framed mirror, which used to hang in the spare bedroom, she wondered how the years had flown by so quickly.
Mrs MacGinty who by this time was beginning to feel a little shaky sat down. She looked slowly around at all her things. She thought and she thought. Suddenly she got to her feet. A gleam came into her eyes. Mrs MacGinty marched as well as a little old lady, with wobbly knees can out to the front gate and took down the garage sale sign.
"After-all," Mrs MacGinty said to herself, "you can't sell your
memories."
